VoxInk Privacy Policy

VoxInk ("we", "our", "the extension") is a Chrome extension that converts speech to text. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Data We Collect
Audio Data
- When you activate voice input, your microphone audio is streamed in real-time to our speech recognition provider (Soniox) for transcription.
- Audio is processed in real-time and is NOT stored — by us or by Soniox. No audio recordings are saved anywhere.
- Audio is only captured when you explicitly activate recording (by clicking the icon or pressing a shortcut).
Text Data (Polish Mode Only)
- When you use the "Polish" mode, the transcribed text is sent to Google's Gemini AI for text cleanup and grammar correction.
- Text is processed and immediately discarded — it is not stored, logged, or used for training.
Usage Data
- We store your total usage time (in seconds) locally in your browser using
chrome.storage.local.
- This data never leaves your device and is used solely to track your free-tier quota.
2. Data We Do NOT Collect
- We do NOT collect your name, email, or any personal information.
- We do NOT track which websites you visit.
- We do NOT read or access the content of web pages.
- We do NOT store audio recordings.
- We do NOT use cookies or tracking scripts.
- We do NOT sell any data to third parties.

4. Permissions Explained
- Microphone — Required to capture your voice for transcription. Only active when you start recording.
- Storage — Used to save your usage quota locally. No data is sent externally.
- ActiveTab + Scripting — Required to insert transcribed text into the text field you are typing in.
- All URLs — Voice typing needs to work on any website (Gmail, ChatGPT, Google Docs, etc.).
5. Data Security
- All communication with Soniox and Gemini is encrypted via HTTPS/WSS.
- API keys are stored on our server (Cloudflare Workers) and never exposed to the client.
- No user data is stored on our servers.
6. Your Rights
- You can stop all data processing by simply not using the extension.
- You can uninstall the extension at any time, which removes all local data.
- You can reset your usage data from the extension popup.
7. Children's Privacy
VoxInk is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
